Secret Recipe @ Penang island

First of all this outlet used to be reknowned for cakes rather than their food menu.Of course that was wayyyy back when the couple personally handmade the offerings one found at their tiny cake counter in The Central Market and there were less players in the market. It is a way different scenario today what with them concentrating on franchise expansion rather than be stringent on quality and hygiene.
This is an example of what I mean when I say that most KL based outlets cannot cook western style foods especially batters.Their chops are awful and hard, sauces irrelevant. Most items on the menu exude a tv dinner after taste to it.Cold and uninspiring due to the fact that it has been probably mass produced in some factory and unlovingly put together on a plate by staff so bored that they never once consider the german cockroaches that crawl around the Gurney outlet to be pests.
Don't be swayed by their Filipino award. The food in the Phillipines is mostly bechiak wan.Give Pinoy chefs canned food and  they can also screw it up can you imagine? These people are more known for their expertise in cakes but I prefer the rich American types so it's a no go for me.
Pointless to jabber too much on this place.Their outlet in Bellisa Row has closed down, the one at Gurney is supposedly under reno or expansion(update:the gurney outlet is back to normal already) and horror of horrors, there is another outlet opening soon at Straits Quay.
