Mizi Bistro-Penang New World Park

Of all days I chose Merdeka Day to dine in this place.I had passed by the outlet many times and was put off by the amount of happy looking diners inside. At the back of my head ,countless good food reviews by bloggers plus the fact that the chef was formerly from a 5 star hotel influenced me into parting with my hard earned cash here.

So in went our party of 3 for lunch. We ordered 2 different kinds of steak sets and our kid had the pasta set.I have to say I was pretty impressed by the offerings on the menu, reasonable price and utterly snobbish look of the diners there.First impression my foot.

My face fell the instant the customary Malaysian western starter of bread and butter was brought out.The bread (soft baguette cut into slices)was definitely bought from a hypermart. The butter turned out to be margarine.

Next up was the soup.I had the french onion soup which turned out to be pretty decent to me.Then I took a sip of their mushroom soup. The tip of my tongue screamed TWISTIES powder? in a soup????but never mind I took a second and a then a third and it somehow just didn't feel quite right.I started scrutinising the mushroom soup. Not only was it lumpy it had too much milk or butter I don't know.

I washed the horrible taste away with my coffee.....aarrrghhh why does it taste like local kopi powder mixed with instant coffee powder?ugh!!!

More torture was to come.My steak mignon had arrived. The sauce had a hint of ginger in it?since when did Mignon have a ginger flavoured sauce? For a medium to well order.... a red river of blood flowed all over my plate.I closed my eyes and swallowed ,and found another fault with the offending dish.I swear it is not standard chilled beef but frozen beef(please don't tell me it is from india)So what did I do? I returned it to the kitchen and can you believe it?When it came back to me I thought they had replaced my steak with a brand new cut.I was so wrong again. They had managed to reconstruct my two pieces of steak which I had mutilated in four pieces into a dish that looked as if it had come straight out of a recipe book.

Therein lies their strength. The chefs crafty ability to mish mash the lowest quality ingredients possible and make it look magazine worthy.I lost my appetite there and then.

The ice cream?Walls....I rest my case.....

So there you have it my very first anti food blogger and newspaper food critic posting.Mizi Bistro.....the place where if you have any leftovers they can probably recycle it and make it look good again without anyone suspecting it.And now I know why its run by a former 5star hotel chef.he probably got the boot from them for all these tricks and compromises he conjures!
